Die Landstreicher Lennie und George hoffen auf einer Farm in Kalifornien endlich Ruhe und Arbeit zu finden. Die ungleichen Freunde wollen sich genug Geld für ein kleines Stück Land verdienen. Doch Lennie, bärenstark, aber geistig minderbemittelt, verliebt sich in die Frau des Farmers und sorgt, wie überall sonst auch, für Konflikte.
